When David steps before Goliath, he’s ridiculously confident. This little shepherd is standing toe-to-toe with a giant warrior, talking trash, while an entire army is cowering behind him. It’s awesome.

Look at what David says to Saul right before he goes out to fight:

“I have been taking care of my father’s sheep and goats. When a lion or a bear comes to steal a lamb from the flock, I go after it with a club and rescue the lamb from its mouth. If the animal turns on me, I catch it by the jaw and club it to death. I have done this to both lions and bears, and I’ll do it to this pagan Philistine, too…”

Sometimes in life, lions and bears come across our path. There are these things that we have to wrestle with and fight with occasionally. We all face problems and issues, and many times they come out of nowhere.

Sometimes lions and bears come in the form of “failure.” We have great ideas and try to start new ventures and they fall flat. Things don’t always go as planned. These things can be discouraging but they aren’t pointless.

One thing I am learning is that the problems that I face now prepare me for the greater struggles ahead. Resistance is what makes a muscle stronger. The things that resist me today, only make me stronger for the bigger forces that will resist me tomorrow.

We don’t have to complain and be upset about the lions and bears, they are what prepare us for the giant.

Every misstep, failure, and unforeseen disappointment that I have faced has been valuable to me. I am constantly challenging myself to look back on hard times and thank God for them. It is in the fire that gold is purified, and I am no different.

Change your mindset: you haven’t failed, you’ve gained experience. You’re not a punching bag, you’re a muscle. God is not against you, He is for you.

Whatever lion or bear that you’re facing right now is only preparing you for your biggest victory yet!

Be encouraged. Be confident. Be strong.

Club those lions and bears to death.

And get ready for your biggest victory yet!
