There’s a gazillion blogs out there. Some consistently deliver extremely epic content on a regular basis. Others contain five posts that were published in 2011.
In this vast labyrinth of blogged information, it’s very easy to find yourself alone, cold and lost in the maze. But don’t end up like Jack Torrance just yet! There is hope. I’m going to try to help by illuminating your path. Hopefully “the shining” of some light will help you find your way to greatness.
I have compiled a short list of art and business blogs that every artist and entrepreneur should be engaged with. I’ll give you their name, links, and why I like them. I also listed a few of my friends’ blogs just because they’re cool.
First, the business blogs:
Smart Passive Income
Pat Flynn is just simply amazing. He gives his readers and listeners an incredible amount of valuable content. Pat is an open book. He shares all of his secrets to making money online and he even shares his monthly income reports. One thing that you repeatedly hear about Pat is how much he cares about his audience. His blog and podcast are a wealth of knowledge that is useful for any artist or entrepreneur. He also gives away a lot of free stuff!
From Pat: I want you to use my successes and my failures to reach your own business goals. This is also why I publish my income report each month, so that you see what has actually worked for me.
This blog is a gold mine of information for anyone looking to start an online business. It refers to itself as “a blog for independent creatives and entrepreneurs building matterful things.” The posts that focus on getting traffic to your sites are some of the best on the net. The Sparkline also gives away a ton of free stuff in exchange for your email address. It’s worth it.
The Investor’s Podcast – We Study Billionaires
These guys have a great blog and an awesome podcast. I listen to the podcast very frequently. They often read books written by or about billionaires and review them. It has really helped me understand how successful and wealthy people think. The stories are always very fascinating and enlightening and I enjoy hearing Preston and Stig share their thoughts. Listen to their podcast about Warren Buffett and you’ll be hooked. I’ve read 4 or 5 books the last two months because of this podcast. They also discuss market conditions and investment strategies.
Now, the art blogs:
Colossal is awesome. GREAT images and unique content. Their about page says this: Each week you’ll find 15-25 posts on photography, design, animation, painting, installation art, architecture, drawing, and street art. Colossal is also a great place to learn about the intersection of art and science as well as the beauty of the natural world. There are frequently posts about things far out in left field, but generally Colossal is a reminder that in the digital age there are still countless people making incredible work with their bare hands. What more could an artist ask for?
Daily Art Fixx
Since 2009, Fixx has been sharing art with excellence. They say that their purpose is to educate and inspire. I can say that they successfully do both. They have a ton of views and they ask for artist submissions. How cool is that? Send them something!
Told you it was a short list! There’s so many more good blogs for the artist and entrepreneur, but these five will get you started on the right track. Do you have a favorite blog you think we should all be reading? If so, comment below and let us know!
